These beautiful moments of family life really drew me in. Hardy's use of light has an almost painterly look to it. Going away from the use of other peoples images and looking at a more documentary approach to image making this is another aspect of my own family I could investigate. However, not living near my family makes this kind of project a little more difficult logistically. Its interesting to me how many photographers and artists in general use the family as a starting point to make work.
“I’m not an intruder or even a witness. I’m a participant in the moment with the people I’m photographing,” - Emma Hardy
Here Emma is describing the way she works and how she takes on a participatory approach to making these intimate images. Along with the use of family participation and collaboration between photographer and viewer is something I would like to explore further.
