Does Diaristic Photography need to be all about dirty sheets and sex?

I came across an article originally published in Flash Art in 2003 about diaristic photography titled COERCED CONFESSIONS: Snapshot photography's subjective objectivity. Entering into a detailed account of where this sub genre of photography came from and who the pioneers, and after artists were and suggestions on where it goes from here. It made me think about this area of photography at I suppose what started my obsession with the point and shoot camera and this aesthetic of pictures. There are a few posts through this article which can be read in full here that made me re evaluate this genre and also made eye think about why it only seemed to be the subject matter of sex, dirty sheets, periods and what you had for breakfast. Why does this way of making images only exist with these topics in mind?
